Terms of use
Plain-language terms for Sill, the wros command line and this website. White Room OS is an early build, and these terms say so honestly.
Last updated 17 October 2026
Agreement
By downloading, installing or using Sill, wros or this website (together, the "Services"), you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy. They are offered by White Room OS [TO CONFIRM: legal entity] ("we", "us"). If you do not agree, do not use the Services.
The software
- The Services are an early build. Features change, may be incomplete, and some are marked beta or placeholder.
- Licence: TO CONFIRM: licence of the software and whether the source is open. Until confirmed, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to install and use the software on devices you control.
- The White Room OS, WROS and Sill names, marks and logos belong to us. These terms give you no right to use them beyond describing the software accurately.
- Download only from our releases page and check the published SHA-256 sums. We are not responsible for copies from elsewhere.
Your data
Your mail, calendar, tasks, contacts and files stay on your computer. You own them, and we do not receive or access them. You are responsible for backing them up (wros backup) and for keeping your database key safe: without the key, an encrypted database cannot be recovered, by you or by us. Uninstalling never deletes your data.
Acceptable use
Do not use the Services to break the law, to send spam or abuse through the mail features, to access accounts that are not yours, to attack or overload other people's systems, or to reverse the security protections of the software in order to harm others. Commands that send or delete need your explicit confirmation; you are responsible for what you, or a script or AI agent you authorise, send or delete.
Third-party services
Sill connects to services you choose, such as Google, Microsoft, mail servers, AI providers and Matrix homeservers. Those services have their own terms and policies, which you accept directly with them. We do not control them and are not responsible for them.
AI features
AI features are optional and in beta. Their output can be wrong, incomplete or inappropriate. Check it before you rely on it or send it to anyone. Do not use it as professional advice.
No warranty
The Services are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, to the fullest extent the law allows. We do not promise that the Services will be uninterrupted, error-free or free of data loss.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for loss of data, profits or business, arising from your use of the Services. Our total liability for any claim is limited to TO CONFIRM: amount, e.g. the amount you paid us, or a fixed sum. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Updates and ending
We may update or discontinue the Services. Some updates change stored data in a way an older version cannot read; the updater asks first and makes a backup. You may stop using the Services at any time by uninstalling them. We may suspend access to the website or downloads if these terms are broken. Sections that by their nature should continue (ownership, no warranty, liability) will continue.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of [TO CONFIRM: governing law / jurisdiction], and disputes go to the courts there, unless your local consumer law says otherwise.
Changes
We may change these terms. We will update the date above, and for material changes say so on the home page. Continued use after a change means you accept it.
